On 5th December 2017, the renowned physicist Prof. Dr. Jacques Prost received the "Physik-Preis Dresden", which is awarded by the TU Dresden and the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS). Prost, an international pioneer in meso-scale physics of biological systems, was honored for his outstanding scientific contributions towards applying the physics of the imbalance to various biological questions. Being a frequent guest in Dresden he has significantly driven and shaped the development of the Dresden biophysical community and has initiated numerous scientific projects at the intersection between physics and biology.

Currently, Prost works on the "physics of active gels and the cytoskeleton" together with CSBD director Prof. Frank Jülicher (MPI-PKS) and CSBD member Prof. Stephan Grill (BIOTEC TU Dresden).

At the award ceremony, the emeritus director of Institut Curie thanked the jury, the donor and his parents, who taught him the meaning of friendship within Europe. "In Dresden, I have found true friends.", he said. 

The "Physik-Preis Dresden" was initiated by Dresden physicist Prof. Peter Fulde, founding director of the MPI-PKS, in 2015. Besides the scientific excellence of the awardee the jury pays particular attention to his/her work complementing and strengthening the long-term cooperation between the TU Dresden and the MPI-PKS.
