Accessibility Declaration

This accessibility statement applies to the website of the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) published at www.csbdresden.de. This site is maintained in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG).

As a public body according to the EU Directive 2016/2012 (Web Accessibility Directive), we are obligated to meet the legal provisions outlined in the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Barrier-Free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0).

The evaluation bases of BITV 2.0, and therefore of this Accessibility Declaration, are the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Compliance status

The CSBD website partially conforms to the BITV 2.0 accessibility requirements, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed in this section fails to meet the aforementioned accessibility standards for the reasons stated below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Several non-decorative images are missing alternative text
  • Inconsistent or incorrect use of HTML elements and ARIA roles can make it difficult to distinguish landmark regions and understand content structure
  • Some contrast ratios for text-to-background fall below the WCAG 2.1 AA standard
  • Some UI elements are not accessible by keyboard navigation
  • Some UI elements lack accessible text labels

Content that falls outside the scope of the accessibility regulations

The following non-accessible content on this website does not fall within the scope of our accessibility requirements:

  • Embedded (third-party) content, such as YouTube videos

Reason for not being fully accessible

We are continuously working on improving this website for all users. However, due to the large amount of material we provide, it has not yet been possible to make all content and services fully accessible. We are committed to removing barriers to access in a timely manner, and thus created the roadmap outlined below to guide us toward this goal.

Ongoing efforts to increase accessibility

In pursuit of barrier-free access to our website, we plan to improve the experience of all users by:

  • Adding alternative text to non-decorative images that also lack captions
  • Revising HTML syntax and ARIA usage to indicate landmark regions and content relationships
  • Correcting insufficient color contrasts between text and background elements
  • Ensuring all UI elements are accessible via keyboard navigation
  • Adding and clarifying accessible text labels for buttons and links

Given the wide scope of the above efforts, we appreciate your patience while we work to make our site better.
