Frank Jülicher, research group leader and director at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (MPI-PKS), was awarded one of the 2017 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize for his major contributions to the physics of active biological processes in cells and tissues. The theoretical models and concepts, developed by Jülicher and his colleagues, make deep insights into the organization of complex biological system possible.

"This is a great honor. I would like to thank my colleagues from the MPI-PKS, as well as the many partners from the MPI-CBG and the Dresden University of Technology for great joint projects especially in connection with the Center for Systems Biology Dresden. Without them such a success wouldn't have been possible", says Frank Jülicher.

The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Price  is a research prize awarded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) every year since 1985 to scientists working in Germany. This highest German research prize consists of a research grant of 2.5 million Euro, to be used within seven years. Every year, ten Leibniz prizes are awarded.
