Science Café ESPRESSO: MacGyver in the lab

How research labs improvise to develop new custom-made technologies

1 March 2016, 8pm

SCIENCE CAFÉ: Technology Development

GrooveStation Dresden (Katharinenstr. 11-13)

In this session we want to discuss how labs improvise and develop new custom-made technologies since there are no solutions available on the market - if you work as a pioneer, you can’t always buy the stuff you need. You will hear about new microscopes, openSPIM, single-molecule insrumentation, and optical tweezers.

The ESPRESSO version of the Dresden Science Café is short and strong like an espresso: a quick shot of science. 1 hour of one-on-one discussions on a hardcore science topic.

These experts will be available for a discussion:

  • Gene Myers, Director and Research Group Leader at the MPI-CBG
  • Pavel Tomancak, Research Group Leader at the MPI-CBG
  • Michael Schlierf, Research Group Leader at the B CUBE – Center for Molecular Bioengineering
  • Marcus Jahnel, Postdoc in the lab of Stephan Grill at the Biotec Center of TU Dresden

Ask your questions, join the discussion!
